Wouldn’t it be great to stop focusing on your eye issues? Whether you’re dealing with the daily irritation of Dry Eye Disease or combating Keratoconus, SCLERAL lenses are specially designed contact lenses to treat a wide range of disorders and diseases such as—Dry Eye Disease, Chemical or thermal burns, Nerve damage (Shingles), Keratoconus, Cornea transplant Post LASIK And more!
Scleral Lens—What is It?
Scleral lenses are larger diameter lenses made with the same materials as Gas Permeable lenses. SCLERAL Lenses are designed to vault completely over the corneal condition and land on the white part of the eye called the sclera. The sclera supports the lens allowing the lens to vault over the condition without interaction with the sensitive cornea. Vaulting the entire cornea, creating a Fluid-filled reservoir that restores vision, provides continuous hydration, repairs damaged tissue and improves long term eye health and comfort.
Scleral Lens—Who is a Candidate?
Irregular Corneal Surface.
This includes patients with keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-penetrating keratoplasty (post-PKP), corneal scarring, irregularities following refractive surgery, and ocular surface disorders. My experience has shown that patients with these conditions are most appreciative of the benefits that accompany scleral lenses. For some patients, fitting scleral Lens may eliminate or delay the need for corneal transplant surgery.
The Scleral Lens Process!
Initial examination,
Corneal Topographer will be used to determine the shape, the refractive error and any possible corneal deformities.
Fitting,
This may happen on the same day, where we will select a lens based on your corneal measurement and your eyesight strength
Follow Up Visits,
One-to-two-week treatment phase where candidates use their prescription contacts.
Remember there is always the risk of infection without proper eye and lens care, so practice good hygiene and schedule routine follow-up eye appointments!
